Not yet built and it's already undergone a complete re-design, why?
Well after completing my controller I actually surprised myself by
how well its came out, and even if I do say it looked quite professional.
So to do it justice I had to finish the whole cabinet.
Anyhow I wasn’t completely pleased with my original design,
I’ve always been a fan of the classic ‘big black box’
cabinets but to be honest I had spent more time on the controller
and the rest of the cabinet was pretty much an after thought.
So it was back to the drawing board with a few other considerations
in mind
| (1) |
A themed cabinet, I want the rest of my cabinet
to have matching graphics to my controller and even a matching
frontend menu if I can spare some time for that. |
| (2) |
A two piece design, I’ve seen a few of these
about and I like the look of them, also If I can find some way
to easily separate the parts when needed it will make moving the
cabinet a lot easier (I’ve seen some cabinets that haven’t
been able to move from the room its made!). |

Another finish rather than paint, the only thing
I was slightly unhappy with was the paint finish on my controller’s
base; whilst smooth I don’t think it would look that great
on a large surface. I’m considering printed sideart and
sheet laminate at the moment. |
With all this in mind it was back sat in front of 3DS Max and Illustrator
for a few weeks playing with several designs/schemes. Finally I think
I’ve come up with something I’m happy with.

The Cabinet
Version 2
Still an upright cabinet with pretty much the
same dimensions as my original design, it will still house a
21-25” screen.
The cabinet now divides into three sections, the
base (housing the PC and coin door), the top section (containing
the monitor and marquee lighting), and the controller unit being
the third part.
I’ve also spent a lot of time planning how
it will all be assembled and hopefully the three sections will
connect with quick release brackets allowing easy maintenance
and moving if required.
The next few pages give a little more info on
the graphic/colour theme for the cabinet including my matching
frontend >>>>>>>>
